Life is Strange 2 Episode 3 Endings

Life is Strange 2 Episode 3 was a pretty interesting episode with a thrilling finale. I want to talk about the different endings here, so there will be major spoilers for this episode. If you haven't played the game yet, you can check out my review here, where I don't talk about the ending in detail.

Every decision matters

There are a few major choices that will have a big impact on the ending in this episode, but it gets more and more difficult to predict what will happen for each individual player because the game remembers all the choices you did in the last episodes and all of them have some kind of influence on Daniel. Sean isn't able to make all the decisions by himself because Daniel will also act on his own, based on what he learned from his big brother before. That's why you always have to think about possible effects in the future, when interacting with Daniel.

However, here are the main routes you can take for the ending of Life is Strange 2 Episode 3.

Go with Finn's plan

The first option you have is to agree to Finn's crazy plan to steal the money out of Merrill's safe. This means that you will go with Finn and Daniel, while Cassidy will stay at the camp.

Make sure to cut the tires of the other car, so that Big Joe cannot follow you later. Once you are in front of Merrill's house, you have to be careful not to get caught. You can destroy the surveillance cameras with Daniel's power, there is one in Merrill's living room too, so make sure to not miss any.

Sneak around the house and take a look through the window. You can ask Daniel to lift up the piece of wood in front of the door to unlock it. After opening the safe inside, you have the option to take the gun. It's your choice, but I don't think it will do you any good.

Shortly after Merrill will come into the room with a shotgun. If you didn't cut the tires of the other car, Big Joe will also show up and take away your gun again, if you took it previously.

Merrill will ask you to get on your knees and you have the option to obey or discuss. If you try to talk to him, he will just punch you in the face, so it's better to just listen to him right away.

Then you have to pick one of three final options:
  • Use the gun
It seems every time you use the gun Finn ends up dying. You will shoot Merrill first, but he will quickly pull the trigger and kill Finn.
  • Do nothing
If you do nothing, Merrill will also kill Finn, but there are two possible scenarios. Depending on your relationship with Daniel, he will either listen to you or decide to use his powers anyway. If he does nothing and Finn dies, he will actually blame you for his death in most cases.
  • Tell Daniel to use his powers
This is probably the best option because no one dies, at least it seems like they are all still alive, even though everyone got hurt. The downside is that Daniel takes a bullet to his shoulder here.

Stay with Cassidy

The other route you can take is to stay with Cassidy at the camp and tell Finn how stupid his plan is. You can have a good time with Cassidy, but eventually you will find out that Finn and Daniel decided to do it by themselves anyway.

Make sure to cut the tires of the other car again. It doesn't make that much of a difference here, but Big Joe is not the nicest guy to have around, so you better get rid of him in advance.

This time you don't get a chance to open the safe and take the gun, even if Finn convinces you to finish the job together. If you agree with Finn, Cassidy will get mad at you and walk away. This isn't necessarily bad though because it means that she won't get hurt later. After that you will get caught by Merrill, as soon as you walk through the door.

If you keep saying no to Finn, Daniel will get angry. Depending on your other choices throughout the game, he might even choke Cassidy in Darth Vader style and blame her for changing Sean. Then he will blow up the door to Merrill's living room and get caught right away. (If he's gonna go crazy, why doesn't he throw Merrill around the room as well?)

After that you get only two final choices this time:
  • Do nothing
Just like before, Finn will die if you do nothing and Daniel listens to you. If you spend a lot of time with Cassidy before and didn't take enough care of Daniel, he will go crazy and hurt Daniel and Cassidy directly with his powers, before blowing up the place entirely.
  • Tell Daniel to use his powers
Personally I prefer this route. I refused to go with Finn both times and told Daniel to use his powers because it looked like Merrill was about to kill all of them. There isn't really a happy ending in this episode though. Even with this route, Daniel still gets shot in the shoulder and Sean, Cassidy and Finn all get hurt during Daniel's rage.

No matter what you do, it seems Daniel always runs away with the money at the end, after tearing the place apart, and Sean gets injured on one of his eyes. (I hope he didn't lose it completely)

Different motivations

Despite the similar outcomes, your relationship with Daniel and his reasons for running away might be very different though. He might run away because he blames you and Cassidy for Finn's death, or he might blame himself for losing control and hurting everybody at the end.

There are a few things you can do to improve your relationship with Daniel throughout this episode:
  • Help him wash the dishes
  • Ask him about his watch
  • Don't smoke with the others
  • Don't get a haircut and go to bed early with Daniel
  • Take the blame for throwing something at Big Joe
  • Tell Daniel to use his powers at the end to save Finn
Not going to the lake with Cassidy also seems to help, but I think it is really annoying that Daniel spends so much time with Finn, but blames Sean for doing the same with Cassidy...

I'm curious to see where the next episode goes. I hope Sean and Cassidy will look for Daniel together because it would be too bad if they throw out the interesting characters again after each episode. It would be cool if you could take either Cassidy or Finn, depending on whom you chose as your love interest before.
