Bong Joon-Ho just received the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his Korean movie Parasite, which is a black comedy about one rich and one poor family.
It will most likely have a lot of social commentary and show us the ugly sides of our society, much like Bong Joon-Ho's other movies.
He is best known for his odd mix of genres. You can never be sure what you get with a Bong Joon-Ho movie, as he seamlessly switches between black comedy, horror, action and drama.
This level of unpredictableness makes his movies so interesting to watch and they are also all visually impressive, each with their own distinct style.
But his films are not just pleasant to look at, they also make you think about our world on a deeper level, especially in Snowpiercer, a personal favorite of mine.
Parasite is the first Korean movie ever to be honored with the Palme d'Or. Even though Korean cinema has received lots of praise since many years ago and films like Oldboy and Pieta both got awarded at Cannes, it was never the main prize until now.
Here is a summery of Bong Joon-Ho's filmography.
