The Suicide Squad Review - Are those really the bad guys?

-Spoilers included-

A secret government agency is recruiting several imprisoned super villains to give them almost impossible missions that would be considered suicidal for normal human beings.

Harley Quinn is awesome
First I would like to say that Margot Robbie was perfect as Harley Quinn, I cannot imagine anyone else playing this role now and i'm really looking forward to a Harley Quinn standalone movie. She brought all the sexy charm and the craziness that makes this character so unique and it was like I imagined a real live Harley Quinn would look like.

No time for character development
Unfortunately the other characters were not that interesting. Will Smith was fine but he just felt like Will Smith to me, I couldn't really see him as Deadshot. Jay Hernandez as El Diablo was quiet promising actually but the movie just didn't take enough time to let any of the characters shine.

Since they introduced so many characters at once I guess there was no time for any depth or character development. Marvel can do things like that in the Avenger movies because they already introduced all of them in standalone movies first but here many people would only know about the Joker or Harley Quinn before seeing the movie, so maybe having a few less characters with a proper amount of screen time would have been better.

Speaking of the Joker, I really like Jared Leto as an actor and I think he was fine here. But I'm still not really sold on his look, I think they tried a bit too hard with it...
Though we haven't seen that much of him yet and I still think he might give a really good performance next time.

Too soft for a movie about villains
The story itself was also very weak and the villain here was boring again like in most superhero movies nowadays...
The way they tried to use Enchantress and all those other super villains seemed like a really stupid idea from the start and of course everything went as expected.

But if you want to make a movie about all those bad guys, why not make it a bit darker at least. I didn't feel like any of them were so bad at all, actually the new Batman was more threatening and pretty much insane...
I think Deadpool is a good example of how to do it right.

Bottom line
Suicide Squad is another failure for DC and a missed opportunity. The concept itself was promising but the story and most of the characters were pretty much forgettable. The only highlight here was Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
