-Spoiler Warning-
The Jurassic World park had to close after the disastrous ending of the first movie, but the dinosaurs are still on Isla Nublar.
Now a volcano is about to erupt and destroy the whole island, so Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) go together on a rescue mission to relocate the dinosaurs, including velociraptor 'Blue'.
Of course, nothing ever goes like planned...
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom pretty much felt like two separate movies.
There is the first half, where they try to save the dinosaurs on the island, and the second half, where they run around in a big mansion. Having two distinct locations is not a problem in itself, but the shift in tone here felt really abrupt, almost like you are watching a different movie suddenly.
The first half of the movie wasn't too bad, it was nothing special, but it was at least watchable for the visuals. The problem is that the second half doesn't seem to make any sense. Why would you take all of those dangerous dinosaurs and put them in your big ass basement? Why would you think that you can control something like that? And what are all those people going to do with their pet dinosaurs?
We're not living in the middle age anymore, we have all kinds of high-tech weapons that are far more destructive and precise than any dinosaur could ever be. Not to mention the fact that you can hardly control them.
I mean, try to take your cat for a walk and see what happens, why would you try it with dinosaurs?
Also the villain of the movie didn't seem like he couldn't pay his rent, yet he was so obsessed to sell all of the dinosaurs right away, for not even such a big amount of money, if you consider how hard it would be to create real dinosaurs. It was just another throw-away-villain with no clear motivations or personality. I guess he did it because he was evil...
My biggest disappointment was the lack of horror though. The director told us that he wanted to make a horror movie with dinosaurs, but there was just nothing scary here. The only scene that tried to be suspenseful and create tension, was the one from the trailer, where the kid is lying in her bed and the newly developed dinosaur is slowly reaching for her with its long claws. Even this scene was over really quickly and there was really nothing else that could be considered horror.
Speaking of the new dinosaur, the design was actually pretty interesting, but ultimately it didn't do anything memorable. It just walked around the corridors for a few scenes and that was all.
All in all this movie felt like it just exists to bring the dinosaurs into our world, so that we can get a third movie, which will show us the real 'Jurassic World'.
I'm not really buying the ending though, it's not like they released hundreds of dinosaurs, it was probably more like a few dozen. Also most of the bigger ones wouldn't be too hard to locate, so the military should be able to take care of them, before they cause too much damage. I don't think they could spread that fast and I'm not sure if they would even be able to breed, since there was just one exemplar of each species, if I remember correctly.
I was really disappointed with this movie and the set up of the third one already doesn't seem very convincing either. Still, I hope that it will be at least more entertaining than this one.
Tell me what you think in the comment section.
Ah, one more thing, why didn't they just relocate the dinosaurs to one of the other empty islands?
