Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the first Star Wars game developed by Respawn. The company previously developed games such as the Titanfall series and Apex Legends. After the spectacular story trailer from Star Wars Celebration, we could finally see about 13 minutes of in-game footage at E3 2019.
Were is it set in the timeline?
The story is set after Revenge of the Sith and before Rogue One and A New Hope. You are playing as Cal Kestis, who is a young Jedi. He is one of the last survivors of the Order 66, which almost wiped out all Jedi in the galaxy. Cal was lucky until now, but he has to constantly run away and fight for his live. Especially now that the Second Sister is trying to track him down, a powerful Jedi hunter who works for the Imperium. It will be a pure single player game
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be a pure single player game without a multiplayer mode and there won't be any microtransactions either. I'm really happy to hear that story focused games like this are still being made, especially after the last Star Wars Game from Electronic Arts got so much backlash for it's heavy emphasis on DLCs.This time you won't have to pay for any additional content later, but the game does come in two different versions, a Standard and a Deluxe Edition. The exact difference between the the two versions has not been revealed yet, but it seems the Deluxe edition will come with some unique cosmetic equipment and some other extra content.
Who doesn't love lightsaber battles?
Good news for all lightsaber battle enthusiasts, it seems Fallen Order will have plenty of those. The gameplay focuses heavily on melee combat that is easy to learn, but supposedly has many steps to master over time. You will be able to combine your lightsaber fencing technique with different force power abilities, to defeat your opponents. This will allow you to do classic Jedi tricks, like pushing and pulling your enemies around, as well as all kinds of other abilities that you can unlock later.
To keep things interesting, you will also have to solve various puzzles along the way and use different strategies to overcome a wide variety of challenges. Another cool feature is a little droid, named BD-1, that will support you on your journey.
No open world
Nowadays there are so many open world games that it's almost surprising to hear that Fallen Order will be a more linear experience. While you won't have a huge world to freely explore, you will still be able to choose where to go next and revisit completed levels. By unlocking new abilities, you will even be able to access new areas in previous levels, so it will always be worth it to go back later. Also there won't be an option to choose between the dark and light side this time. It seems Cal Kestis is devoted to the light side, no matter what. While it is fun to have games with interactive stories, I guess this choice was made to let you experience one well crafted narrative.
Release Date
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released on November 15, 2019 on PC and consoles. I'm personally really looking forward to play a pure story focused single player game again, especially since the gameplay looks really fun too. I hope the story will be just as compelling. You can check out the new gameplay trailer here.
