There are times when you get a strange feeling in your stomach and something just doesn't seem right, even though you don't quiet know what it is. This movie is the perfect example that sometimes it is better to listen to that inner voice and Get Out.
A young black man is invited to meet his white girlfriend's parents for the first time, but he is worried because they don't know about his skin color yet...
Horror and Comedy
Get Out was kind of a surprise hit and got lots of positive reactions, so I went in with quiet high expectations and luckily it didn't disappoint. I've seen similar stories before, but it was all really well constructed here and super entertaining. It is as much a comedy as it is a horror movie and it was equally funny and scary at times.
Good Cast
All of the actors were really good here, but the star is definitely Daniel Kaluuya in the lead role. He was able to convey lots of emotions just with his facial expression and sometimes you could really feel the terror in his eyes. Allison Williams was also great and both of them had good chemistry on screen.
Lil Rel Howery was not in the movie that much, but every time he showed up, he was super funny and made the movie a lot more entertaining overall.
Always keeps you guessing
There are a couple of twists in the story and even though I saw it coming most of the time, it is still really entertaining and always makes you wonder what happens next. I just would have liked a little more suspense and horror towards the end, it was a little anticlimactic to me. I also expected something else would happen at the very end, but I heard that this version actually exists as an alternate ending on the Blue-ray. It seems the director had his reasons for choosing a different ending for the theatrical version and after reading about it, I actually think that was a nice decision.
As expected, the film also has plenty of social commentary and I thought it was a very original way to put out a message like that. This is actually Jordan Peele's directorial debut, which is really impressive, considering the good quality of the movie.
Bottom line
Get out was a nice surprise, it has great performances and a good mix of horror and comedy. Also it holds an important message at it's core that might be more relevant than ever.
