The first movie of the Anthology series
As a Star Wars fan, I was really excited to see Rogue One, since it is the first standalone movie in the Star Wars universe. I was also really curious to see how it compares to the rest of the saga.

It is set between episode 3 and 4 and involves a group of rebels who have the almost impossible mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.

Great special effects and visuals
Lets talk about the positives first, the special effects and the visuals here are really spectacular. It makes you feel like you are right there on the battlefield and the fight scenes are really well made too. The At-At's were especially impressive and it was awesome to finally see them again after such a long time, with much better visuals.
Unfortunately those were the only good points to me...

Weak story and characters
The story itself just wasn't very interesting, especially the first half of the movie was pretty boring actually. They just went from location to location in a short amount of time, without anything interesting happening that could grab your attention.

Which leads me to the next point, I didn't care about any of the characters. That kind of made me sad because Star Wars has always been famous for its unique characters, but here none of them seemed to have any depth or personality. Actually we didn't even get to know anything about them.

They could have done much more with Mads Mikkelsen's character, as he is a fantastic actor, but unfortunately he didn't have anything to do here.
Felicity Jones felt like she got lost between Daisy Ridley and Jennifer Lawrence from the Hunger Games, I don't know, but there was just nothing interesting about her.
Donnie Yen actually looked quiet promising in the middle of the film, but they only gave him one fight scene to shine and that was about it. It's a shame because there was so much potential.
At least the robot among them was a little funny.

No star wars magic
Overall the biggest flaw I have with this movie is that it had none of the Star Wars magic, it didn't even feel like a Star Wars movie. Even the Soundtrack wasn't able to stir up any emotions. It's fine to try something new -Episode 7 was way too familiar- but it shouldn't be boring and emotionless.
I'm not sure if I would watch this movie again, I don't really know why I should.
I can even watch Episode 1-3 from time to time and take them for what they are. They have many flaws as well, but at least they have better characters and a more emotionally investing story.

Bottom line
I was super disappointed with this movie, the story is boring, it has no character development whatsoever and most of all, it lacks any of the magic that the other Star Wars movies have.
