Since the new IT movie is coming out soon, I thought it would be fun to talk about some parts I liked about the book, that were not really shown in the TV miniseries.
This is the second part, check out the first part here:
Stephen King's IT book - Two things i liked that were not in the TV miniseries - Part 1
The process of forgetting
Another thing that was really impressive to me in the book was the ending, after they defeated Pennywise. I mean the fight against Pennywise was awesome of course, and they got that totally wrong in the miniseries too, but one thing that I also liked very much was the very ending of the book.
After the remaining members of the Loser Club defeated Pennywise, all of them moved away from Derry again, returning to their former lives. While Ben and Beverly went away together, all of the other ones had to split up again and gradually forgot about each other, Pennywise, and what happened during that summer.
It's not like they chose to forget each other, even though so many horrible things happened and that could be a reason too, but their memories just faded away one by one. Mike tried to write it down, but even the words in his notebook disappeared slowly.
To me that was really sad because you spend all that time reading more than 1000 pages and really liking those characters and then they just forget about each other.
But at the same time that is something everybody can relate to I think. When you are young, you think you will always stay in contact with your best friends and nothing can come in between you, but life mostly doesn't work like that. Suddenly 10 years, 20 years have passed and you realize that you lost track of most of them. Time never stops and life always takes you to new places, most of us can't hold on to everything, even though it can be sad when we look back sometimes.
I just really liked how that was depicted in the book and I think it wasn't really shown like that in the miniseries. But there are many other impressive parts too that were left out, those two were just the ones that stood out to me.
I'm curious to see how faithful the new movie will be to the source material.
Tell me your favorite part of the book in the comment section if you like.
