I posted a review about The Mummy (2017) before, but I couldn't talk about the ending there, so I wanted to share my thoughts about it here.
Of course it would be better to watch the movie first, or just take a look at my spoiler free review.
What bothered me about the ending
As I said in my review, I was very disappointed with The Mummy and the awful ending made it even worse. Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis really have zero chemistry and so it was just not believable that he would sacrifice himself, just to save her.
Did she deserve it?
I just don't see why Ahmanet had to suffer so much and why they portrayed her death scene in that particular way. It was quiet tasteless in my opinion. Also i kind of felt sorry for her, because she was betrayed by her father and after taking revenge, she was stuck with the curse herself. Of course it is probably always a bad idea to sell your soul to some evil Egyptian god, but still, i don't think she is that much evil herself and certainly didn't deserve to die in such a cruel way.
Overall she was definitely the most interesting character and it would have been nice to see more of her in future installments of the Dark Universe. Isn't that actually the point, to have all those monsters connected somehow?
Personally i'm not very interested in Tom Cruise's character, as he is just not likable to me. Usually i like Tom Cruise, but I think his character here just wasn't written that well. Also if Annabelle Wallis shows up again the disaster would be complete. The two of them have as much chemistry as cats and water...
I'm still curious to see what would happen in the next installments, but it doesn't seem like the Dark Universe can recover any time soon.
